Collection: Burt Awelagte
Ah-we-lah-tee
Burt's fetish carvings have a highly distinctive abstract style, with dramatically angular incised lines that exaggerate the body's contours. He delights in deconstructing the face into elemental, geometric shapes. Burt's carvings often feature striking stones like ammonite, crawstone, dolomite, fossil jasper, turquoise, coral, and fluorite. The sculptural, fluid quality of his work is balanced by dynamic, striking arrangements. Burt learned the art of carving from his first cousin, Joseph Quam(d), as well as other family members.
