Melissa Quam, is an abstract carver hailing from a family of skilled carvers, including her sister Abby Quam- Panteah. Both Melissa and Abby learned the craft from their older brother, Gabriel Quam(d). Melissa's carvings have a lightly sculptural quality, often depicting smaller animals in a dynamic, turning pose that imparts a graceful flow and rhythm. Rather than inlaying the eyes, Melissa tends to incorporate decorative stones such as lapis, malachite, labradorite, and yttrium fluorite into her work.
