Todd was self taught by influence of a family member who gave him a "guide" of a small bear fetish. Though he majored in geological engineering at NM Tech after high school, unaware that he would become a full-time artist, his academic background has since aided his understanding of the stones he now carves. Todd has been creating award-winning fetish carvings since 1990, earning recognition across the United States.
