Leek-yah

(1967- )

Hayes comes from a family of fetish carvers. His parents were Francis and Mrs. Leekya, and his grandfather was Leekya Deyuse(d). Hayes' brothers Freddie and Delvin encouraged him to start carving, which he began in 1997. After attending Job Corps in Oklahoma and studying the automotive trade, Hayes worked a regular 8-5 job. He is now a full-time artist, carving happy animals like frogs, livestock, and horses that seem to look up at the viewer. Hayes has also created human figures, such as priests and women.
