Abby Panteah: Banded Onyx, Bear

Abby Panteah: Banded Onyx, Bear

Pan-tee-yah

A bear carved from banded onyx stands with a grounded, steadfast presence, its body shaped by the stone’s natural layers that flow in warm waves of caramel, honey, and deep chestnut. The polished surface enhances the rich contrast of these bands, giving the bear a sense of movement and life within the stillness of the stone. Set into its face are small sterling silver eyes, catching the light with a bright, metallic glint that brings alertness and vitality to its expression. Across its side runs a slender sterling silver heartline, gleaming against the earthy tones, symbolizing life, breath, spirit, and the lifeforce within. The fusion of the warm, organic stone with the cool, lustrous silver creates a striking balance between earth and metal, tradition and artistry.

Bear (Anshe): Bear was the principal animal for the Pueblo People and they are the most prevalent subject of Zuni fetishes. Bear fetishes are used for healing, protection, strength, journeying, mothering, hunting and gathering. Bear‚ hibernation reminds us of the value of going within.
