Alex Poncho: Picasso Marble, Frog with Turquoise Inlay

Alex Poncho: Picasso Marble, Frog with Turquoise Inlay

Pon-cho

Picasso marble has these gorgeous striations and patterns that resemble a piece of abstract art, which makes it the perfect medium for carving intricate designs. And boy, does this frog have some intricate details! But what really takes this carving to the next level is the use of turquoise dotted inlay. These vibrant green dots are strategically placed all over the frog's body, creating a stunning contrast against the warm hues of the marble.

Frog (Da:k'yawiyo): Toad (Dakka) Frog (Dakkya) is a sign of water. Water is life. In Zuni Pueblo, frogs often appear on prayer bowls since many of the Zuni prayers and dances ask for water in the form of rain or snow. Cleansing is also a part of Frog’s meaning as well as emotional and physical healing.  .
