Angel Yatsayte: Mini Pipestone, Beaver
Angel Yatsayte: Mini Pipestone, Beaver
Yat-say-tee
The beaver is depicted in a crouched, alert posture, with its body low and rounded, strong hindquarters emphasized, and its broad, flat tail curled slightly to one side. Its front paws are tucked near its chest, carved with gentle detail to suggest the dexterity of this industrious creature. In its mouth, the beaver holds a small slender stick. The most striking feature is its turquoise eyes, bright and vivid against the earthy tones of the pipestone. The turquoise adds a spark of life to the carving—watchful, intelligent, and alive with spirit. The color contrast also nods to the harmony between earth and sky, stone and water.
Beavers (Biha) are extremely energetic and exhibit great diligence in whatever they do. Their willingness to participate in purposeful and cooperative activity is part of their medicine. We can learn a great deal from this singular quality. Whether building their underwater lodges, repairing dams, or taking care of their kits, beavers do it with zeal. This is why we have the expression, “eager beaver.” They are gentle creatures who show us that working hard can be its own reward.
