Carol Martinez: Fishrock, Horses
One horse lies in repose, its intricate form capturing the tension and grace of movement frozen in time; on its behind rests a delicate paw print—a whimsical testament to nature’s capricious hand, perhaps echoing the spirit of the wild that lingers around these majestic creatures. The understated elegance of their supple bodies juxtaposes sharply with the raw power they embody, whispering tales of ancient spirits and untamed landscapes. Even as they stand still, an electric energy vibrates within them—their very presence commanding reverence and awe, beckoning viewers to venture deeper into their enigmatic story woven from stone and imagination.
Horse (Du:shi): Horse brought power to the People. After the horse arrived on the Plains, people were able to move faster with heavier burdens, they could hunt game more efficiently, and they became fiercer warriors. Horse affords mobility that gives us freedom and power, but not the power that weighs us down. We need to be mindful that the most positive relationships are cooperative ones. All participants must respect the power of others with acceptance and tolerance. Our relationship to Horse differs from relationships between man and any other animal because it is a relationship requiring a deep understanding, without which the strength and benefits of Horse are inaccessible.
