Danette Laate: Picture Jasper, Owl

Danette Laate: Picture Jasper, Owl

Laa-ah-tee

The sitting owl exudes an air of mystique and wisdom. The details of the carving capture the essence of a wise old owl observing its surroundings with intense focus. The piercing gaze of the inlaid black and turquoise eyes seems to follow you wherever you go, drawing you into a deeper connection with the spirit animal. This dramatic piece serves as a powerful reminder to embrace intuition, navigate through darkness, and trust your inner guidance. It's as if this carved owl holds ancient secrets waiting to be unlocked by those who are willing to listen and learn from its silent wisdom.

Owl (Muhukwi): Owls can see what others cannot and this is a large part of Owl (Muhukwi) medicine. Owl’s ability to do this reminds us of the importance of both worlds: the physical as well as the spiritual, perhaps the known and the unknown. Our willingness and courage to transform the unknown in ourselves into the known is a true source of wisdom. The Zuni Pueblo people call the owl “the Night Grandfather” because he does his work at night. Clairvoyant properties and uncovering deception have always been associated with Owl. Its connection with wisdom comes from Owl’s ability to discern that which cannot be “seen.”
