Delvin Leekya: Picasso, Eagle w/Bundle & inlayed Tail

Delvin Leekya: Picasso, Eagle w/Bundle & inlayed Tail

Lee-kya

Its form is sharp and deliberate—wings tucked close to the body, head raised slightly, with a curved beak that signals alertness and authority. The body is streamlined yet powerful, carved to reflect the eagle's place as a sky messenger and protector, both revered and feared in many Indigenous cultures. The turquoise eyes shine brilliantly against the moody marble, piercing and vivid, like fragments of open sky. They reflect not just physical sight, but spiritual vision—the ability to see truth from high above, beyond illusion, and into the heart of things. On the tail, the eagle bears intricate inlays of turquoise and jet. The turquoise, with its healing, sky-like color, and the jet, deep and grounding, form a balanced contrast—representing air and earth, light and shadow, or perhaps spirit and form. These materials, placed with intention, give the tail a ceremonial feel, as if it channels power through the eagle’s flight. Set on the eagle’s back is a mother of pearl arrowhead, shimmering softly in hues of white, pink, and silver. The arrowhead glows like moonlight—elegant, luminous, and powerful. Mother of pearl adds the element of water and the divine feminine to the piece, while the arrowhead itself symbolizes direction, focus, protection, and purpose. Its placement on the eagle’s back suggests spiritual guidance—a sacred burden or gift carried through the skies.

(K'yak'yali)

Eagle (K'yak'yali): meaning is that of extraordinary vision, of seeing the whole picture. Even though Eagle can see the smallest of details from a great distance, it maintains a comprehensive view. Eagle helps us to remember that one’s journey is spiritual as well as physical.
