Enrike Leekya: Fishrock, Frog
Lee-kya
Bright turquoise eyes bring a vivid contrast to the pale stone, giving the frog a watchful, spirited expression. Along its body, small inlaid turquoise dots create a decorative pattern, adding vibrant accents that enhance the visual interest. Its tongue, crafted from wood, extends outward in mid-catching motion, and at the tip rests a delicate dragonfly inlaid with mother-of-pearl and turquoise, shimmering with iridescent flashes of white, blue, and green. The combination of white fish rock, turquoise accents, wooden tongue, and inlaid dragonfly results in a dynamic, whimsical carving that balances natural beauty with playful, intricate artistry.
Frog (Da:k'yawiyo): Toad (Dakka) Frog (Dakkya) is a sign of water. Water is life. In Zuni Pueblo, frogs often appear on prayer bowls since many of the Zuni prayers and dances ask for water in the form of rain or snow. Cleansing is also a part of Frog’s meaning as well as emotional and physical healing.
