The stone’s natural patterns ripple across its body in bold contrasts—deep charcoal, soft grey, and earthy brown—giving the carving a sense of movement and texture, like fur stirred by the wind. Set into its face are vivid turquoise eyes, their bright blue glow standing out strikingly against the dark, mottled stone, adding a spark of life and spirit. The interplay between the marble’s rugged, organic beauty and the luminous turquoise creates a piece that feels both earthy and powerfully alive.
Bear (Anshe): Bear was the principal animal for the Pueblo People and they are the most prevalent subject of Zuni fetishes. Bear fetishes are used for healing, protection, strength, journeying, mothering, hunting and gathering. Bear‚ hibernation reminds us of the value of going within.
