Gilbert Bowannie: Zuni Travertine, Bobcat

Gilbert Bowannie: Zuni Travertine, Bobcat

Bow-won-knee

The Zuni travertine used for this carving is known for its beautiful earth tones, which give the bobcat a natural and realistic appearance. Gilbert has taken great care in bringing out the intricate patterns on the fur, creating a sense of movement and life in the stone. From the piercing eyes to the perfectly shaped paws, every aspect showcases the expertise and talent involved in its creation. This bobcat carving not only serves as a stunning decorative piece but also as a testament to the rich tradition and artistry that thrives within Zuni culture.

Bobcat (Debi): The power of independence. While felines are independent in nature, this is epitomized in Bobcat. Its attitude is that fences, barns, and chicken coops are surely meant to keep out others. Their independent nature has caused them to be regarded as pests by farmers and ranchers but that trait is vital to their survival. Unlike most other felines, Bobcats do not have a strong aversion to water. They have been known to jump into water and swim after prey. They are rarely seen, as they hunt at night and they feed on a variety of animals so they can do well just about anywhere. Independent indeed!
