Jeff Eriacho: Turquoise, Mini Bear Bundle
Eri-acho
The bear’s black inlaid eyes lend a focused, watchful expression, enhancing its protective and commanding stance. Resting on its back is a finely carved black lip shell arrowhead, its dark, iridescent sheen adding depth and symbolism. The arrowhead represents protection, direction, and strength — reinforcing the bear’s role as a guardian figure.
Clenched gently yet firmly in its mouth is a detailed fish carved of abalone. The iridescence of the abalone creates a beautiful contrast against the darker tones of the bear, symbolizing sustenance, abundance, and harmony with nature.
Bear (Anshe): Bear was the principal animal for the Pueblo People and they are the most prevalent subject of Zuni fetishes. Bear fetishes are used for healing, protection, strength, journeying, mothering, hunting and gathering. Bear‚ hibernation reminds us of the value of going within.
