Rickson Kallestewa: Alabaster, Bear with Offering Jar
Rickson Kallestewa: Alabaster, Bear with Offering Jar
Kal-les-te-wa
The bear’s posture is upright, exuding a quiet, grounded strength. Its form is stylized yet powerful—broad shoulders, strong limbs, and a slight tilt of the head suggesting alertness or watchfulness. The bear’s eyes are black, which contrast sharply with the alabaster and give the figure a sense of depth and presence.
Bear (Anshe): Bear was the principal animal for the Pueblo People and they are the most prevalent subject of Zuni fetishes. Bear fetishes are used for healing, protection, strength, journeying, mothering, hunting and gathering. Bear‚ hibernation reminds us of the value of going within.
