Rosella Lunasee & Loubert Soseah: Picasso, Mt. Lion

Rosella Lunasee & Loubert Soseah: Picasso, Mt. Lion

Loon-a-see

So-see-ah

A mountain lion carved from Picasso marble is a striking blend of natural artistry and raw power. The Picasso marble, known for its dramatic, abstract patterns of browns, greys, blacks, and creams, sweeps across the sculpture like brushstrokes on a canvas, perfectly capturing the mountain lion’s sleek, muscular form and dynamic spirit. The swirling veins and contrasting colors give the carving a sense of movement and depth, as if the animal is emerging from shadows and light. The mountain lion is depicted in a poised, alert stance—body taut and ready, muscles subtly defined beneath the smooth stone surface. Its head is held high, ears perked, with an intense, focused expression that conveys both stealth and strength.

Mountain lion (Hokdidasha): is at the top of the food chain and is regarded to be a great hunter and leader. Mountain lion’s presence is usually felt but not seen. Mountain Lion medicine is about setting good examples and boundaries.
