Rosella Shack: Dolomite, Horse
Rosella Shack: Dolomite, Horse
A horse carved from dolomite stands with a poised, enduring presence, its form shaped by smooth planes and gentle curves that capture both strength and grace. The stone’s natural tones—soft creams, warm tans, and subtle veining—flow along the contours like the rippling muscles beneath a living horse’s coat. Its polished surface catches the light, revealing the mineral’s quiet beauty and earthy character. Set into its face are striking turquoise eyes, their vivid blue hue glowing against the muted stone, imbuing the carving with a spark of life and spirit. The combination of dolomite’s grounded warmth and turquoise’s vibrant energy gives the piece a balanced, timeless elegance.
Horse (Du:shi): Horse brought power to the People. After the horse arrived on the Plains, people were able to move faster with heavier burdens, they could hunt game more efficiently, and they became fiercer warriors. Horse affords mobility that gives us freedom and power, but not the power that weighs us down. We need to be mindful that the most positive relationships are cooperative ones. All participants must respect the power of others with acceptance and tolerance. Our relationship to Horse differs from relationships between man and any other animal because it is a relationship requiring a deep understanding, without which the strength and benefits of Horse are inaccessible.
