Ruben Najera: Antler, Two frogs on a mushroom

Ruben Najera: Antler, Two frogs on a mushroom

Na-je-ra

The intricate carvings on the shells shimmer with iridescence, reflecting the dappled light filtering through the forest canopy above. As they sit perched on their mushroom throne, their eyes seem to hold secrets untold, their stoic expressions hinting at a knowledge beyond mortal comprehension. The antler mushroom itself acts as a pedestal of reverence, elevating the frogs to a position of importance and power. One can almost sense the pulse of magic thrumming through this tableau, as if the very spirits of the forest have imbued these creatures with a sacred purpose.

Frog (Da:k'yawiyo): Toad (Dakka) Frog (Dakkya) is a sign of water. Water is life. In Zuni Pueblo, frogs often appear on prayer bowls since many of the Zuni prayers and dances ask for water in the form of rain or snow. Cleansing is also a part of Frog’s meaning as well as emotional and physical healing.
