Vernon Lunasee: Silverado Jet, Bear
Vernon Lunasee: Silverado Jet, Bear
Luna-see
The rich black stone emphasizes the bear’s rounded, powerful form, capturing both strength and quiet dignity. Set into its face are vivid turquoise eyes, their bright blue-green hue creating a striking contrast against the dark, lustrous jet, giving the bear a watchful, almost mystical expression. The combination of the jet’s intense darkness and the turquoise’s vibrant brilliance imbues the carving with a sense of strength, spirit, and timeless beauty, as if the bear carries both the power of the earth and a spark of life within.
Bear (Anshe): Bear was the principal animal for the Pueblo People and they are the most prevalent subject of Zuni fetishes. Bear fetishes are used for healing, protection, strength, journeying, mothering, hunting and gathering. Bear‚ hibernation reminds us of the value of going within.
