Kah-chi-knee
The dolomite’s natural variations give the body a sense of movement, as if wind and stone merged into form. Set into the face are turquoise eyes, bright and vivid against the muted stone. These blue-green eyes bring the carving to life, offering a sense of presence, awareness, and soul. They suggest a deep connection to the sky and spirit, imbuing the figure with more than just physical grace. Resting or inlaid upon the horse’s back is a turquoise arrowhead—a powerful symbol of life, direction, protection, and purpose. The arrowhead gleams with vibrant color, its pointed shape contrasting the curved body of the horse. It may signify the horse as a spiritual guide or messenger, carrying not only strength but intention and sacred direction.
Horse (Du:shi): Horse brought power to the People. After the horse arrived on the Plains, people were able to move faster with heavier burdens, they could hunt game more efficiently, and they became fiercer warriors. Horse affords mobility that gives us freedom and power, but not the power that weighs us down. We need to be mindful that the most positive relationships are cooperative ones. All participants must respect the power of others with acceptance and tolerance. Our relationship to Horse differs from relationships between man and any other animal because it is a relationship requiring a deep understanding, without which the strength and benefits of Horse are inaccessible.
